This policy outlines guidelines for the ethical and responsible use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies at Leafville Ohio High School.

 It aims to harness the benefits of AI in education while addressing potential challenges and ensuring adherence to ethical principles. This policy applies to all students, teachers, and administrative staff at Leafville Ohio High School when utilizing generative AI technologies for educational purposes, including classroom activities, homework assignments, and research projects. 

Generative AI refers to AI technologies capable of producing original content such as text, images, or audio based on input data and algorithms. 

Academic Integrity: Upholding honesty and ethical behavior in academic work, including proper attribution of AI-generated content. – Bias: Systematic errors or unfairness present in AI-generated content due to the data used or the algorithms employed. 

Students are expected to maintain academic integrity by appropriately citing AI-generated content and clearly distinguishing between their original work and AI-assisted content. 

Leafville Ohio High School is committed to providing equitable access to AI tools for all students and addressing biases that may be present in AI-generated materials. 

Protecting students’ and educators’ data privacy when utilizing AI tools, in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). 

Approved applications of generative AI in educational settings to support learning objectives, such as assisting with research, generating creative content, or aiding in problem-solving exercises. 

Generative AI may not be used for completing assignments on behalf of students or engaging in academic dishonesty. 

 Guidelines on how students and teachers can collaborate and share AI-generated work responsibly within and outside the school environment. 

Students are expected to use generative AI tools responsibly, including proper attribution of AI-generated content and understanding the limitations and potential biases of AI. Teachers and Staff are responsible for guiding, monitoring, and evaluating the use of generative AI in educational activities, emphasizing the importance of critical thinking and originality. 

Administrators are going to provide support, resources, and training to ensure the effective and ethical use of AI technologies in education. 

Regular monitoring of generative AI usage to ensure compliance with the policy and ethical guidelines.  

Procedures for addressing policy breaches, including potential consequences for academic dishonesty involving AI tools. 

 Provision of training sessions and educational resources to students and staff on the ethical use of AI and interpretation of AI-generated content.

 Information on accessing technical assistance for utilizing AI tools effectively and responsibly. 

Establishing a regular review schedule to update the policy based on advancements in AI technology and feedback from stakeholders. 

Mechanisms for students, teachers, and parents to provide input and suggestions for improving the policy and its implementation. Hold school-wide presentations to introduce the AI use policy, gather feedback from stakeholders, and address any questions or concerns raised. 

Utilize existing school resources such as computer labs and online learning platforms for AI education and training. – Collaborate with local community organizations or universities to provide expert guidance and support on AI education. – Leverage online resources and partnerships with AI technology providers for technical support and training materials.
